Trend – “Sh!t Shop” exhibitions

A sh!t shop is what we call the many stores here in the Parkdale area of Toronto that sell any and everything – you’ll never know for sure what it is almost from week to week.

It looks like a country general store but without the useful items. Not quite a dollar store, but not to be confused with quality either.

I have seen three exhibits with this same sensibility as well in the last week. Stuff crammed into a gallery as a sort of mall or retail experience with stuff everywhere but with a twist – such as being all white or glittery skulls or clown-esque … oh, the irony.

It’s clutter but is it art? Sure, but it’s kinda boring except for the ones putting it together I guess.
